Alvin was the the first dancer on “So You Think You Can Dance” worldwide to be invited as a choreographer whilst a contestant in the top 100. His choreography is featured in Season 3 & 4 of SYTYCD Australia.
Recently, Alvin has choreographed for Justice Crew’s Australian Tour. He has also toured as a dancer with artists such as Stan Walker & Johnny Ruffo. You may have seen him on TV shows such as, X-Factor Australia, Vodaphone, ABC’s Dance Academy, MTV, Young Talent Time and choreographed for Anthony Callea, Young Men Society (Jay Sean & Reece Mastin support acts).
Other choreography credits include G-Star Raw Denim, adidas Originals, Shell Aviation, Target (L’Oreal Fashion Week) & Boost Juice.
YouTube continues to play a big part in his success with over 3 million views on his videos collectively across his channels “Alvindecastro” and “Dakubo” (older channel). His most recent dance film projects, “Euphoria” & “Exit”, received international recognition and is featured on dance websites around the world.
A versatile dancer & choreographer, Alvin emerged from a self taught street background. His first teaching job at an ‘all Styles’ Hip Hop dance Studio called Unitd Styles in Melbourne, allowed him to train in Hip Hop foundation over many years. Commercially, Alvin trained in Los Angeles and New York. Further training followed with a full-time dance scholarship at Patrick Studios Australia in 2007 training in all styles of dance.
Coming from a Hip-Hop dance crew background, Alvin is the founder of two- time National Hip Hop Champions, ‘Beatphonik’ (Battlegrounds 2007 & AHC 2008). His background in both the crew scene and industry make him a favourable adjudicator in dance competitions around the world.
With over 14 years teaching experience, Alvin is a highly sought after instructor and has toured workshops across Asia. He is currently based in Sydney.
